Aker Solutions secures umbilical contract in Australia

25.04.2012   + + +   Aker Solutions has signed a contract with Woodside Energy Limited for the manufacture and supply of electro-hydraulic steel tube umbilicals (EHU) for the Greater Western Flank (GWF) Phase 1 project on the north-west coast of Australia. Contract value is undisclosed.

The scope of work includes project management, design, engineering, manufacturing and verification testing of two steel tube umbilicals at a total length of 17 kilometres. The contract also covers all associated ancillary equipment required for transportation to Australia and interface with the existing development.

"This contract highlights our strong presence for delivering world class products in the Australasian region and strengthens our position as the world's leading producer of steel tube umbilicals," says Tove Røskaft, executive vice president of Aker Solutions' umbilicals business area.

The umbilicals will be manufactured and delivered out of Aker Solutions' facility in Moss, Norway, supported by project management, design and engineering in Fornebu, Norway.

During the last quarter of 2013, Aker Solutions will open a new state-of-of-the-art umbilicals manufacturing plant in Pekan, Malaysia, to meet the anticipated growth and the needs of their Asia Pacific customers. Aker Solutions has also opened an Asia Pacific umbilicals office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where the company already has a strong presence. This office will serve clients in the APAC region and is headed by Mr Crawford Tennant who is the former head of Aker Solutions' subsea manufacturing centre in Port Klang, Malaysia.

The broader Greater Western Flank (GWF) area consists of 16 fields located to the south west of the Goodwyn A (GWA) platform on the north-west coast of
      Australia.
The GWF Phase 1 Project will develop the Goodwyn GH and Tidepole fields, via a subsea tie-back to the existing Goodwyn A platform and represents the next major development for North West Shelf Project partners.

Subsea umbilicals are deployed on the seabed to supply necessary controls and chemicals to subsea oil and gas wells, subsea manifolds and any subsea system requiring a remote
      control.
