RWE Innogy tests two Offshore turbines onshore

Same turbine typ as in Nordsee Ost
6.15 MW installed capacity each

2012-11-07   + + +   RWE Innogy and Essent have inaugurated two Repower 6M wind turbines in the Dutch city of Eemshaven. The turbines each have a rated power of 6.15 MW and a hub height of 114 meters. The same turbine type will also be used in the wind farm Nordsee Ost in German waters.

The two on-shore installed Offshore turbines extend the installed capacity of the biggest Dutch RWE Innogy Onshore wind farm Westereems by 12.3 mw increasing it to 168 megawatts in total.

"The history of wind farm Westereems is an excellent show case of the rapid technical development of wind energy throughout the years. Where 20 years ago the wind farm consisted of 40 turbines to serve over 5,000 households with green electricity, now only one of the modern 6M turbines at this site is capable of doing so. This is enormous”, says Roy Schwarzer, Head of Wind Onshore at RWE Innogy.

As well as the expansion of the existing wind farm, the operation of the plants in Eemshaven offers an opportunity to gain new insights for their employment on the high seas in the project Nordsee Ost.
