RWE enters into energy partnership with Turkmenistan
Memorandum on long-term co-operation signed with the Government of Turkmenistan
Joint initiatives in the areas of gas supplies, upstream and know-how transfer
RWE is entering into an energy partnership with Turkmenistan. During a visit of a RWE delegation to Ashgabat, the chairman of the State Agency for the Management and Use of Hydrocarbon Resources of Turkmenistan, Yagshigeldy Kakayev, and Juergen Grossmann, CEO of RWE AG signed a Memorandum on long-term co-operation, covering various areas of the energy sector.
Amongst other things, the parties have agreed upon investigating and discussing first direct deliveries of natural gas from Turkmenistan to Germany and Europe. RWE will also engage in the exploration and development of natural gas resources in Turkmenistan’s western Caspian Sea.
Juergen Grossmann, CEO of RWE AG, said: “This partnership with Turkmenistan is a big step towards future gas supply contracts with Turkmenistan. These will lead to further diversification of Turkmenistan’s export portfolio and improve the security of gas supplies to Germany and Europe”. Stefan Judisch, CEO of RWE Supply & Trading: “A co-operation with Turkmenistan emphasizes our commitment to our partners in the Caspian region.”
In order to set up the transfer of know-how between both countries, RWE will invite Turkmen experts to trainings at various facilities within the RWE Group. The first group of 20 Turkmen experts will already be welcomed this April. Together with the German government, RWE will also support the German language education in Turkmenistan, e.g. by helping to set up the first German library in
Ashgabat.
