E.ON Engineering has awarded MAN TURBO AG the contract to supply a gas turbine compressor unit, consisting of an FT8-55 gas turbine with a drive power of 25 MW and a pipeline compressor. The system will be used in the Waidhaus pipeline station of MEGAL (Mitteleuropäische Gasleitungsgesellschaft mbH), a joint venture between E.ON Ruhrgas and Gaz de France. Waidhaus on the German/Czech border marks the start of the 628 km long MEGAL Nord network that connects Waidhaus with the Medelsheim station on the German/French border.

The new gas turbine unit is to be installed in parallel to the existing operating machinery and will have the effect of expanding the pipeline station. Since 1976, in Waidhaus natural gas from Russia has been brought to a pressure of approx. 80 bar. In the light of increasing gas requirements in France, capacities can be raised and the increasing demand satisfied with this MAN TURBO unit.

The award of contract to MAN TURBO was based on the fact that the FT8 gas turbine unit ideally meets the relevant performance and efficiency requirements. Because of its special design the compressor can run in serial or parallel operation and can therefore easily be adapted to different gas pressures and volumes. Its outstanding flexibility means that it can meet all the requirements of this pipeline station.

E.ON Engineering has chosen a MAN TURBO concept that has already proven its worth in a number of different pipeline stations. Gas turbine units have been installed with this concept in the past and are still able to meet today's high requirements for natural gas transportation.
