HOERBIGER concludes acquisition of Altronic, Inc.
HOERBIGER Holding AG, Zug, Switzerland, has acquired Altronic, Inc., Girard, Ohio, USA, effective January 1, 2009. HOERBIGER will integrate the company into the Business Division Engine Solutions, and therefore into the Strategic Business Unit Compression Technology. Altronic has locations in Girard, OH, Garland, TX, and Morrison, IL, in the United States, as well as Nuenen in the Netherlands, and Moscow in Russia. With the acquisition of Altronic, HOERBIGER will become a leading provider of ignition systems for stationary gas engines worldwide.
HOERBIGER Compression Technology is the market leader for key components and services for the reliable, efficient, and clean operation of compressors. For more than ten years, HOERBIGER has also been committed to the environmentally sound operation of large bore engines: In 1998, HOERBIGER developed an electronic injection valve for retrofitting older gas engines. Based on this product HOERBIGER started to offer engine upgrade services as early as 2000. In 2004, HOERBIGER ValveTec GmbH was founded in Vienna, Austria. The company is considered the innovation leader for fuel injection valves for gaseous fuels, especially hydrogen and natural gas. In 2007, the integration of Mecel Engine Systems followed, operating as HOERBIGER Control Systems AB. The company in Åmål, Sweden, is specialized in the development of engine controls.
Altronic, Inc. is the worldwide leader of ignition systems for industrial gas and diesel engines and a leading provider of products used to control and monitor gas engines and compressors. Additional core products include control panels, components for air/fuel ratio control and load control, as well as speed governors and pressure and temperature measurement instruments. Altronic Controls, Inc. offers custom controls as comprehensive solutions to providers and operators of gas engines and compressors. In addition, Altronic sells the GTI Bi-Fuel system, which converts standard diesel engines to operate on up to 70 % natural gas.
With the acquisition of Altronic, HOERBIGER Compression Technology will expand the Business Division Engine Solutions into a leading systems provider for efficient engine management. “The worldwide leading technology of Altronic in digital ignition systems, the innovative strength of HOERBIGER ValveTec in injection systems for gas engines, as well as the know-how of HOERBIGER Control Systems AB in the area of electronic engine control systems ideally complement each other,” said Dr. Peter Steinrück, Head of the Business Division Engine Solutions.
HOERBIGER plans to expand the Girard site, where Altronic, Inc. employs 140 of its 210 people, into the Lead Plant for the Business Division Engine Solutions. The location offers outstanding development and production know-how and an efficient sales organization.
The Altronic brand will continue under the umbrella of HOERBIGER Compression Technology – as a value proposition for excellent products and first-rate services. The entire Altronic product range for the control and automation of gas engines as well as all products of the HOERBIGER Business Division Engine Solutions are scheduled to be available both to original equipment manufacturers and to the operators of gas engines as the end customers. This will include in particular the control systems and components for retrofitting diesel engines to the environmentally friendly gas operation. Altronic will continue to work with their existing distribution network, thus honoring long-term and well proven customer relationships.
Bruce R. Beeghly, who joined Altronic, Inc. in 1964, will remain President of the company after the acquisition. “The corporate values of Pioneering Spirit, Courage, Fairness, and Closeness toward customers and suppliers as well as employees unite HOERBIGER and Altronic. Both companies are extremely technologically oriented. We will merge our strengths and jointly develop new products with high benefit for the customer.”
Johann Hipfl, Chief Executive Officer of the Strategic Business Unit Compression Technology in the HOERBIGER Group, adds: “The leading position of the Altronic brand in the area of electronic ignition systems is an excellent match for the leadership position that HOERBIGER Compression Technology has acquired over decades as a partner to the oil, gas, and process industries.”
