E.ON Ruhrgas: Intensification of LNG business

To further expand its LNG business, E.ON Ruhrgas has opened a representative office in Doha, State of Qatar, in addition to the Middle East representative office already operating in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The aim is to make further progress in long-term imports of LNG. "In future, LNG is to supplement our traditional gas supply portfolio, thus contributing to security of supply for our customers throughout Europe. In this respect, Qatar is a strategically important partner," said Dr. Jochen Weise, member of the E.ON Ruhrgas Board of Management.
Through this strategic initiative E.ON Ruhrgas is further confirming its commitment to the Middle East region. "The business relationship with Qatar Petroleum, RasGas and Qatargas is very important to this long-term strategy. E.ON Ruhrgas would like to participate with the State of Qatar in supporting the industry-leading achievements of the country's gas industry," Dr. Weise added. "E.ON Ruhrgas has a strong market position in Europe and we hope that these markets will be an attractive business opportunity for Qatar to pursue with us," said John Roper, Vice President and Head of Middle East, at the Doha Natural Gas Conference 2009 in Qatar last week.

E.ON Ruhrgas already has its own gas production in Norway and the UK. Expansion to North and West Africa is now taking place in order to secure gas and LNG supplies for European markets. The company was recently selected by the government of Equatorial Guinea to develop gas infrastructure and possible LNG projects. In 2008 and 2009 E.ON Ruhrgas was awarded exploration licences in Algeria and Egypt where the company will drill several wells over the next years. Offices have already been established in Algeria, Libya and Nigeria to develop its E&P and LNG business.

E.ON Ruhrgas is a leading European gas company based in Essen, Germany. In the E.ON Group operating worldwide, it is responsible for the pan-European gas business, providing markets across Europe with natural gas. E.ON Ruhrgas has a workforce of over 9,800. In 2008, E.ON Ruhrgas supplied 59 billion m³ to its customers consisting of local and regional energy suppliers, industrial companies and power stations. Its supply system comprises gas pipelines with an overall length of 11,500 km, 15 underground gas storage facilities at 13 locations in Germany and Austria with a total volume of more than 5 billion m³ as well as 28 compressor stations.
