String tests successfully achieved for Yemen LNG plant
Converteam was awarded a contract in 2005 by Elliott to supply two sets of complete electrical systems driving 4 compressors for two liquefaction trains located at Bal Haf, Yemen LNG, with a total production capacity of 6.2 million metric tons per year. From the 33kV network to the 11MW induction motors shaft end, Converteam carried out all the studies, supply and integration of the different electrical equipment.

To achieve the string tests, Converteam sent to Elliott’s premises in Pennsylvania, USA, 19 tons of equipment consisting mainly of: 2 transformers each 7MVA, an air-heat exchanger and an induction motor in addition to a variable speed drive housed in a 16 meters long container. The installation of the whole equipment started on April to achieve the string tests in June. On the 9th of June, the string tests were completed at rated power with success.

The good results of the string tests allowed delivery of the material to the site on time. With the cooperation of our Indian entity, the commissioning of train 1 is planned for the end of 2007 and the commissioning of train 2 for mid 2008.
