Groundbreaking Alliance for Offshore Training
Beluga Offshore Training Academy and Deutsche WindGuard sign cooperation agreement
On 13 September 2010 in Bremen the Beluga Offshore Training Academy signed a cooperation agreement with Deutsche WindGuard on holding joint training courses on offshore safety. From the spring of 2011, using a holistic approach, the Beluga Offshore Training Academy, currently under construction at the Maritime Campus in Elsfleth will combine basic maritime navigation training with module-structured safety-at-work training courses for offshore industries including project and heavy lift shipping. In conjunction with Deutsche WindGuard, one of the leading service and consultancy companies in the wind energy sector, expertise on offshore work, wind energy and professional training will be bundled and further developed at the highest level.
Providing joint training courses in the sector of offshore safety, as well as the further development of safety training, is at the core of the cooperation between the Beluga Offshore Training Academy (BOTA) and Deutsche WindGuard (DWG). BOTA’s modern training centre, which will be completed in the spring of 2011, provides the best possible conditions for excellent maritime training. It will be equipped with crane simulators, a pool for safety exercises on and in water, lifeboats, helicopter underwater-escape training (HUET), a training tower and comprehensive survival apparatus. Deutsche WindGuard, an internationally renowned wind energy service provider, brings with it over 20 years of experience and expertise in areas such as project development, wind farm analyses, business management and consulting for on and offshore wind energy. Besides operating a centre with four company-owned wind tunnels, DWG also manages the AlphaVentus offshore wind farm. The DWG’s offshore safety training programme is certified by Germanischer Lloyd according to OPITO standards. “Our cooperation is aimed at making full use of the competence of both firms. It shows that we at WindGuard are pressing forward with our entry into the offshore market,” affirms Niels Erdmann, the managing director of Deutsche WindGuard Offshore GmbH.
Emilio Reales, managing director of the Beluga Offshore Training Academy GmbH emphasises: “BOTA and DWG both work at the highest level of quality. With this partnership we will meet the high demands of the offshore industry in every way and create an integrated training centre which is unique in Europe.”
For years already Beluga Shipping GmbH has been active in Elsfleth and has demonstrated its competence in dedicated training and research. The Maritime Campus, which besides accommodating the Beluga Offshore Training Academy is home to Jade University Wilhelmshaven/ Oldenburg/Elsfleth, the Ship’s Mechanic Training Centre and the Centre of Maritime Research in Elsfleth, is now augmented and enriched by the addition of comprehensive know-how from the wind sector.
