BASF Catalysts receives top supplier award from major Asia polypropylene manufacturer

BASF Catalysts has received Formosa Plastics Corporation’s Supplier Excellence Award for 2008. The award, from Taiwan’s largest manufacturer of polypropylene, was given in recognition of BASF Catalysts’ high quality service and technical support for Formosa Plastic’s plant expansions and start-ups in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and Ningbo in mainland China.

BASF Catalysts relationship with Formosa Plastics dates back more than 20 years, starting with supplying the original Lynx® 900 catalyst for polypropylene production. Both the upgraded and expanded Kaohsiung facility and the new start-up Ningbo facility are now using the BASF Lynx 1000 catalyst, which enables increased production of higher grade polypropylenes. These higher grades are used in a range of polypropylene applications that result in consumer products, such as automotive parts (bumpers), food wraps, woven fabrics, graphic materials and many other end uses.

“We’re very pleased to be supporting Formosa Plastic’s growth and success as they expand their production operations in China and Taiwan,“ said George Vann, Global Business Director for BASF Catalysts. “We continue to see the worldwide expansion of polypropylene production plants that rely on our custom and Lynx® catalysts.”

BASF Lynx catalysts provide polypropylene producers with maximum value through superior product properties and improved process operability. Lynx catalysts are utilized in all major polypropylene process technologies, including slurry, bulk loop, stirred gas, fluid gas and stirred bulk.

Formosa Plastics Corporation (FPC) is Taiwan's leading petrochemical company and among the world's largest producers of polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
