ARCA supplies valves for second largest natural gas reservoir in Central Europe
The company ARCA Regler GmbH, Tönisvorst/Germany delivered several control valves for the second largest natural gas reservoir in Central Europe, which is located in Haidach/
Austria. After two years of construction the first extension of the biggest natural gas reservoir of Austria has been put into operation mid of this year. The reservoir is capable of storing in this first extension 1.2 billion m3 natural gas. After completion of the second extension the storing capacity will double again and than be equivalent to approximately a quarter of the Austrian annual need for natural gas.
The valves that have been delivered by ARCA will be used in the gas drying plant as well as in the rejection process. The high pressure angular valves for drilling water have been a particular technical challenge, because on the one hand the medium contains solid contaminations and on the other hand differential pressures up to 160 bar inside the valve have to be relieved. For this application the already in other underground reservoirs proven ARCA control valves with multi-stage hard metal trim have been chosen, because they guarantee also under extreme conditions a long life cycle, low wearing and high reliability.
The import of natural gas to Europe is increasing rapidly. Natural gas reservoirs are a major source to secure also in the future the gas supply. Natural gas is one of the ecologically friendliest and most advanced energy forms. A quarter of the consumption of primary energy carriers in the European Union at present falls to natural gas.
