The forward-looking TA-Luft-compliant seal set for valves and fittings: BuraTAL Series

The stringent regulations contained in the latest TA-Luft regulations and in EN 15848 and API 622 mean that spindle seals for valves and fittings have to meet the highest of requirements in respect of volatile emissions. Many existing industrial plants are already being brought up to this technical standard in accordance with European regulations (IPPC Directive 96/61/EC) and/or national legislation (such as TA-Luft 2002). 

The new generation of the BuraTAL seal sets developed by EagleBurgmann is suitable for use as original equipment and for retrofitting in all valves and fittings in the chemical, petrochemical, refinery and processing industries. BuraTAL is resistant to nearly all chemicals (solvents, hydrocarbons, acids, alkalis), steam, alcohol, water, oil, etc. (except for media with a strong oxidizing effect, e.g. hot sulfuric acid and nitric acid for graphite-based and fluorine compounds for PTFE-based seal sets). 

Seal sets are available to cover the entire temperature spectrum from -200°C to +400°C, complying with the leakage rates of 10-4 mbar*l(s*m) required by VDI guidelines or complying with EN 15848 Class C03. 

An original control valve with a BuraTAL HP seal set combination has already been awarded approval by MPA Stuttgart for TA-Luft high-pressure applications for the range 325bar/80°C after 1000 spindle cycles. A spring-backing system (live-loading system) is used to secure the required contact pressure for the seal set, thus ensuring extremely low values for leakage and spindle friction. Overall, the BuraTAL series of seal sets offers users an excellent means of complying with the directives and very good opportunities for standardization and cost savings.
